Led Zeppelin really knew how to fly the friendly skies in the ’70s.
Many pop culture icons toured America on this private Boeing 707.
On July 31, 1973, NBC’s “Nightly News” reported a segment on Led Zeppelin and their plane called ‘The Starship.’ The Starship was a United Airlines Boeing 707 that had been modified to support touring rock bands.

The aircraft had a fireplace, a bar, a piano, velvet seating and a video cassette player with a TV. It also had a bedroom with a shower built into the back of the plane. There were two flight attendants on board, and it cost about $2,500 an hour to rent.
All that glitters is gold.
Led Zeppelin stayed in hotels in New York, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.
After each show, the band members were transported by limousine from the concert venue to the airport, as depicted in the Led Zeppelin concert film The Song Remains the Same.

Peter Frampton was the last to charter The Starship, in 1976 and it was dismantled for parts in July 1982.
