As we enter into the latter half of 2016, avid gamers are already looking forward to the impressive lines of games scheduled to release in 2017.
Here are the top 5 most anticipated video games for the coming year:
5. The Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild
Seems like someone at Nintendo is doing their job right! Reviving a game that has been synonymous with nostalgia and share awesomeness for over three decades is a genius idea. Scheduled to be released alongside the brand new NX console, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already generating some HUGE waves and rightfully so. The cell shaded graphics and tweaked AI coupled with trademark engrossing and compelling storyline are akin to just scratching the surface. Reportedly, the game also has dynamic combat, vast array of items topped by an open world infested with all sorts of monsters. No wonder this game is a ubiquitous entry on most anticipated games lists everywhere!
4. Destiny 2
Developers Bungie took a reprieve from their signature Halo series and brought us Destiny in 2014. The online only first person shooter, which was critically acclaimed by users and critics alike, has an unnamed sequel due for release next year. Information about the yet unveiled title is scarce at the moment, but taking into consideration the developers at the helm and the sequel’s predecessor, it’s safe to assume that we can look forward to something worthy and delightful.
3. God of War 4
Yes, you read that right and yes it’s a new installment in the ever gloriously brutal and gory exploits of Kratos. For the sake of distinctiveness, developers SIE Santa Monica Studios have decided to leave numbering out of the title. So, what’s new about this one, you might ask? For starters, Kratos the God slayer now is a father to a runt of a boy who may have some powers of his own. Apparently, becoming a father has forced our hero to rein in his rage, but that doesn’t mean there would be any less gratuitous carnage and tearing of sinews of fantastical beasts and monsters onscreen. From the looks of the trailer, it seems like Kratos is now indulging in Norse mythology (Thor beware!)
We have included a PS4 exclusive, so it was only natural to balance things out by including an Xbox One exclusive title. Leaving apart the aforementioned balancing, Scalebound justifies its presence on this list by virtue of its stunning and tantalizing glimpse that Microsoft benevolently showed prior to release. The game has a protagonist named Drew, who controls a dragon. For a change, dragons are not the evil reptilian antagonists and that alone (in my book at least) deserves applaud. Though the movie Aragon had the same idea, but we are looking forward to this offering by PlatinumGames.
1. Mass Effect Andromeda
Saving the best for last, Mass Effect Andromeda is one of the most eagerly anticipated Sci-fi RPGs in the first quarter of 2017. The game reportedly has a “pathfinder” protagonist looking for new planet to colonize. After the somewhat controversial ending of Mass Effect 3 (some loved it, others hated it with a passion), Bioware has rightfully claimed that the new installment isn’t a continuation of the old storyline. Nevertheless, it has fans around the world excited to no end.
